I did not plan a litter for 2010 but Barney & Olivia had other ideas!!! They produced a
lovely litter of 6 puppies on the 27th June. I would never consider doing a merle/merle
breeding due to the health problems that can occur, these are usually eye defects and/or
deafness, and the fact that these matings can produce what are known as "patterned
whites". This just means that the puppy is all white with splashes of colour (blue merle,
black) rather than being a solid or merle with some white trim. I was fortunate that all
these puppies were very healthy, lively and could see & hear.
There were two patterned whites in this litter, Kara a red merle and Snow a blue merle.
Unfortunately at 6 weeks of age Snow had a bowel obstruction from which she never
recovered and passed away while under veterinary care. Kara 'may' develop cataracts at
an earlier age than other Aussies due to the fact that she has very thin retinas.
The remaining 5 have thrived and are now with their new owners. I hope they bring
their owners as much joy & laughter as I had raising them.
